Founded in 1966 by Colonel I. R. Perkin, the Pima Air and Space Museum displays aircraft dating as far back as the World War II era. Part of the museum’s community outreach efforts involve school and youth group tours of the museum, designed to foster an interest in the history of aviation. The museum waives the initiation fee for K-12 school groups, as well as youth organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Junior Achievement, and many more.
School and youth group activities at the Pima Air and Space Museum include self-guided exploration of exhibits such as aviation hangars and the Space Gallery. School groups can also go on guided tours of World War II aircraft and learn the general history of aviation. The museum provides numerous educational resources for teachers interested in continuing the discussion of aviation in the classroom, as well.
