A successful entrepreneur focused on real estate development, Lew McGinnis launched his Oklahoma-based investment company in 1965. Over the course of his career, Lew McGinnis has balanced his professional activities with various charitable pursuits. He previously served as director of the Pima Air & Space Museum, a Tucson, Arizona-based organization he continues to support.
In its efforts to educate the public about aerospace science and the history of flight, the Pima Air & Space Museum oversees a number of ongoing programs and activities. For youth, the organization offers monthly STEM activities as well as several additional events and competitions throughout the year. One of the museum’s most popular events is the Great Paper Airplane Fly-Off, a paper airplane competition for children ages 6 to 14.
Now in its seventh year, the Great Paper Airplane Fly-Off was launched by the Pima Air & Space Museum in 2012. Contestants are required to create their airplane using a standard-sized sheet of 20-pound paper. The contestants get just one opportunity each to throw their plane, and those with the longest flight in each age group are awarded a mobile tablet and a 60-minute airplane flight over Tucson.
Registration is now open for the seventh annual Great Paper Airplane Fly-Off, which will take place Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Pima Air & Space Museum. In addition to the competition, the event will feature an inflatable obstacle course, a NASCAR race car simulator, paper airplane folding demonstrations, and other activities.
