A highly successful real estate developer, Lew McGinnis overcame a very difficult childhood and has since shared his success through numerous charitable undertakings. Lew McGinnis is a recipient of the Man of the Year award given by the Tucson (Arizona) chapter of the City of Hope for his contributions to the organization’s medical center in Duarte, California.

The City of Hope was founded in 1913 and today is widely known for its leading role in basic and clinical research, patient care, and translational science. Its main campus in Duarte hosts state-of-the-art medical and research facilities. For its outstanding contribution to cancer prevention, treatment, education, and research, the City of Hope belongs to the exclusive list of 45 institutions given comprehensive cancer center designation by the National Cancer Institute.

Its program in stem cell and bone marrow transplants, with unsurpassed survival rates, is one of the world’s largest and most successful. U.S. New & World Report ranks the City of Hope among “America’s Best Hospitals.” To give some indication of its achievements regarding cancer research and treatment, the organization received around $248.8 million in revenues in fiscal year 2014 from its patented technologies.
